Wanda's Bio

Wanda's musical journey began in the heart of Alabama, where she immersed herself in the world of bluegrass and old-time music, quickly rising to prominence by clinching numerous prestigious instrumental competitions. In 1981, she made the pivotal move to Nashville, simultaneously embarking on a music business degree at Belmont College. Her early years in the industry saw her touring with country super-star Lynn Anderson, setting the stage for an illustrious career.

A trailblazer, Wanda assembled and performed with the all-female band, "The Right Combination," which backed Grand Ole Opry Star Porter Wagoner, both on tour and regularly on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Wanda's journey continued as a founding member of the acclaimed country group, Wild Rose. With chart-topping singles and hit videos they received an ACM nomination and a Grammy nomination for country instrumental performance.

Wanda's versatility as a studio musician shines through in her contributions to thousands of recordings for an impressive array of artists, from Alabama and Jason Aldean to Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift. Her musicianship graces the works of icons such as George Jones, Little Big Town, Billy Ray Cyrus, Travis Tritt, Trisha Yearwood, and Reba McEntire.

Beyond the recording studio, Wanda's musical tapestry extends to extensive television work and noteworthy live performances. Her influence resonates not only in country music but also in Christian music, television source music, motion pictures, and jingles. As a testament to her instrumental prowess, Wanda has recorded several instrumental projects and earned a coveted spot in the musician spotlight at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In partnership with her husband Mark Burchfield, Wanda is a co-owner of Watershed Recording Studio, a highly regarded facility in Nashville. With a career spanning decades and a legacy woven into the very fabric of country music, Wanda is thrilled to be a part of the Grand Ole Opry Staff Band as she continues to be a driving force and an inspiration in the industry.
